"You can dance to MY music"

Don Cherry, trumpet
Herbie Hancock, piano

Recorded in New Orleans

Donald Eugene Cherry (Don Cherry)was born November 18, 1936 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His shining light in human form extinguished October 19, 1995.

His dad, also a trumpet player, owned a place called the Cherry Blossom Club where young Cherry saw greats like Charlie Christian and Fletcher Henderson perform.

In 1940, the family moved to the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles where his father tended bar at the Plantation Club on Central Avenue, a major jazz hub.

There's much more to the story and we'll be telling in on other pages, but this is a case where the music tells it all.

Please share your favorite JazzontheTube.com videos with your friends and colleagues

That's how we grow.
