Henderson first picked up the trumpet at age 9, when family friend Louis Armstrong gave him an informal lesson.

Henderson was also inspired by the fusion work of Miles Davis, another friend of his parents who Eddie was lucky enough to jam with as a teen.

Henderson earned his medical degree from University of California at Berkely and was a practicing doctor before joining Herbie Hancock in the early 1970s.

Henderson plays live in 2012 with his group the Eddie Henderson Quintet.

Personnel:

Dr. Eddie Henderson - trumpet
Ptah Williams - piano
Freddie Washington - tenor sax
Gary Sykes - drums
Bob DeBoo - bass
