Written by Eric Dolphy for his 1960 album “Outward Bound,” “245” was actually the number of his house – and one of three of his own compositions to make it to the recording. This performance is from August 30, 1961.
Bass giant Charles Mingus remarked about Dolphy as a saxophonist that he was a “complete musician” who could “fit anywhere.” Mingus particularly praised Dolphy as a multi-instrumentalist.
