This 1940 Duke Ellington composition is loosely based on the rhythm changes from I Got Rhythm, by George Gershwin.

A veritable polymath, trumpeter Eddie Henderson holds a degree in medicine from Howard University. In a career rarity (and dream) he could actually leave medicine to play music.

But there's tons of gray matter on this stage. Pianist Herbie Hancock, for example, was a classically trained child prodigy and later an innovator among jazz musicians, eager and early to adopt electronic instruments.

This performance also features the considerable talents of Eli Degibri, Ira Coleman and Terri Lynne Carrington.
