Herbie Hancock & the "New Standard All Stars" perform at the 1997 Montreux Jazz Festival.

A definitive artist of post bop, Herbie Hancock was among the first jazz musician to adopt elements of funk.

He first gained attention as member of the "Miles Davis Quintet" from the mid to late '60s and would become known for his use of synthesizers later in his career.

Many of his compositions have crossed over to become pop hits.
