Hiromi is one of the most technically skilled and creative jazz pianists on the scene today.
While Hiromi has spent much of her career leading fusion trios, it is when she performs an acoustic solo concert that she is at her most remarkable.
On this version of “The Gambler” (which starts out with her emulating a slot machine), she performs on the technical level of an Art Tatum or Oscar Peterson.
Hiromi really tears into the piece with ferocity yet still seems relaxed and clearly enjoys every moment.
For those who are not familiar with her, Hiromi is a musical force of nature well worth discovering.
