The trumpeter performs a live version of his one hit

Trumpeter Humphrey Lyttelton was a giant in the British trad and swing worlds for decades.

Lyttelton started out as a 1920s revivalist in the late 1940s before changing his focus to mainstream swing a decade later.

While Lyttelton made many excellent recordings during his career, he only had one hit, a 1955 recording of “Bad Penny Blues” that was a bit of a fluke.

This live and televised version is from the mid-1980s and features some excellent plunger mute work by Lyttelton along with fine boogie-woogie playing from his pianist.
