Quite an array of classic jazz talents at a single concert

On Oct. 27, 1972, the Newport Jazz Festival In Europe tour performed at the Dolen in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Four major and sometimes augmented groups are featured on this sampling of what took place that night.
First organist Jimmy Smith plays a brief number with a band that includes Art Farmer and Clark Terry on flugelhorns, Illinois Jacquet and James Moody on tenors, guitarist Kenny Burrell, and drummer Roy Haynes.
Next up is the Cannonball Adderley Quintet which at the time included altoist Adderley, cornetist Nat Adderley, keyboardist George Duke, bassist Walter Booker, and drummer Roy McCurdy.
Dave Brubeck heads a quintet with altoist Paul Desmond, baritonist Gerry Mulligan, bassist Jack Six, and drummer Alan Dawson; they get to stretch out the most during this film.
Finally the Charles Mingus Sextet (trumpeter Joe Gardner, baritonist Hamiet Bluiett, pianist John Foster, drummer Roy Brooks and the bassist-leader) with the great high-note trumpeter Cat Anderson as a guest performs “Perdido.”
The four all-star groups each fare well and demonstrate the vast array of talent that was active in the early 1970s.
