Jazz in Marciac Festival, 2010


Kenny Barron is featured performing in France at the 2010 Jazz in Marciac Festival.

Philadelphia pianist Kenny Barron born June 9, 1943, began in the band of Dizzy Gillespie and in 1962 was briefly a member of the "Art Farmer-Benny Golson Jazztet."

In 1961 Kenny had made the first of his many recordings in New York with his older brother tenor saxophonist Bill Barron.

He toured the U.S. and Europe extensively with Dizzy Gillespie and James Moody until before forming a band in 1967 with trumpeter Jimmy Owens and recording independently with numerous artists including Joe Henderson, Stanley Turrentine, Booker Ervin, Freddie Hubbard, and Chico and Von Freeman.

Kenny Barron taught piano harmony at Rutgers University for twenty-five years, and currently holds an position at the Juilliard School of Music.
