Here we can see Miles Davis' legendary Second Great Quintet at full blast. Davis would refer to their playing style as “time, no changes,” and the group managed to incorporate the sound of free jazz into a relatively leaderless structure.
The tune "Walkin'" was written by Richard Carpenter and first appeared on an album released by Prestige by the same name in 1957. It was originally recorded in 1954 in a hard bop unit Davis led that featured Lucky Thompson, J. J. Johnson, Horace Silver, Percy Heath, and Kenny Clarke.
