Tete Montoliu (1933-97) was one of the great jazz pianists but, since he lived in Spain, he is not as well-known as he should be to American jazz fans.
Discovered by Lionel Hampton in 1956, Montoliu recorded often during the next few decades, always impressing the American musicians who passed through Europe.
Teamed at a 1983 performance with bassist Mack Johnson and drummer Peter Louis, Montoliu swings throughout a fine performance of “There Is No Greater Love.”
