Roscoe Mitchell, alto sax
John Edwards, bass
Tony Marsh, drums

Often cited as a key figure in advant-garde jazz Roscoe Mitchell was born and raised in Chicago where he began playing clarinet and saxophone before his teen years.

Following military service stationed in Germany he returned to the Chicago area, and performed with a band with bassist Malachi Favors and saxophonists Joseph Jarman, Henry Threadgill, and Anthony Braxton.

Mitchell would become among the first members of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians in 1965.

During the 1990s the saxophonist began to experiment with classical music and has made it a point to work with younger musicians in order to pass along his knowledge.
