One of the greatest units in jazz history

It's hard to imagine a more smoking line up.

Max Roach on drums, Clifford Brown on trumpet, Sonny Rollins on tenor, Richie Powell on piano and George Morrow on bass. Fortunately this group had an opportunity to record before it was broken up by tragedy.

What you're hearing here is the sum total recorded output of the group.

In one of the great tragedies in jazz history, Powell, Brown and Powell's wife Nancy were killed in a car accident just six months after these sessions was recorded.

Here's the playlist.
