Paris, 1969


The "Thelonious Monk Quartet" are featured performing live in Paris 1969.

When his drummer Ben Riley and bassist Larry Gales resigned from Monk's band just before he was scheduled to leave on European tour giving him a very short time to find replacements.

Young musicians Paris Wright and Nate Hygelund were recruited to join the band first plying dates in Europe before arriving in Paris to give this televised concert.

There Thelonious Monk, Charlie Rouse, and the new rhythm section were joined by the great Philly Joe Jones who had been teaching in Hampstead, London.
