Our story...
It all started way back in 1980.
I made an all-day trip to the Museum of Broadcasting in New York City just to see one short video with Lester Young and Billie Holiday. I was so moved by what I saw that I considered a whole day invested just to see ten minutes of film to be a very small price to pay.
Back in those days jazz practically never appeared on TV and the idea of "home video" (then VHS) was still very new.
If you wanted to see jazz on film, you had to go to one of the then relatively rare jazz festivals that might be hosting an evening screening of jazz on film.
Then along came the Internet
In 2005, YouTube figured out how to make videos easy to share and dedicated themselves to hosting as many videos as people could upload.
Slowly, jazz fans discovered the service and started emptying their closets and uploading the contents to YouTube - and they haven't stopped since.
Just when we think the supply of classic videos has been tapped, new ones emerge. It's nothing short of amazing.
Our job at JazzontheTube is to find the best of these videos for you and make them super-easy for you to find.
But wait, there's more...
We also maintain the biggest, most up-to-date directory of jazz clubs, jazz festivals, jazz radio stations and jazz education programs worldwide - online and free.
In 2014, we started a podcast series that focuses on the chroniclers, the teachers, and the presenters of jazz.
In 2015, we teamed up with the legendary broadcaster and Golden Bandstand Award winner Henry Holloway to make his programs available on demand.
What's next?
A lot.
Stay tuned and if you think your jazz friends might like what we're doing, please help spread the word.
Thanks!
