About The FoodMusicJustice Project

In the dark years after the failure of the US Army Corps of Engineers levees (don’t call it Katrina), Jazz on the Tube produced a few hundred short articles in support of New Orleans. We also shot a lot of original video.

Unfortunately, hackers destroyed most of this site while we were focused on other matters and much of this priceless archival work was lost.

We’re in the process of trying to reconstruct it, a laborious and expensive process.

What we have been able to salvage so far were notes about our “Manchester Loves New Orleans” Project. The goal was to stimulate musical and artistic exchanges between the UK’s hippest music city and New Orleans.

The two cities have strong historical connections. If you throw Liverpool into the mix, the case can be made that modern pop music was invented by a collaboration between these two places.

The FEMA Trailer Tour

I saw these folks on Rampart this weekend. They’ve got two trailers crisscross the country spreading the word. Gulf Coast citizens were not victims of Katrina and Rita. They were victims of the government: federal, state and local with FEMA handling the bulk of the...

Levees.org

One of our favorite projects is advising Levees.org founder Sandy Rosenthal on communications strategy. Here’s a video of her on TV delivering the levees.org message: http://www.wwltv.com/video/news-index.html?nvid=223351

Mardi Gras Indians

Another great article on the current New Orleans music and culture scene from Larry Blumenfeld. This one about Donald Harrison Jr. and Mardi Gras “Indian” culture appeared recently in the Village Voice. Mardi Gras Indian Chiefs Stand Spectacular, Tall, and Proud Doing...

Levees – God Bless the New York Times

It’s not often I say this about a US news media outlet, but credit to where it’s deserved. The New York Times has done a consistently excellent job of reporting on conditions in New Orleans as well as highlighting its unique culture. The other day they printed this...

Putting the food in FoodMusicJustice.com

Stumbled on this while going a Google search for something else. This is a man who clearly loves his food and he found heaven on earth in New Orleans and southern Louisiana. This report happens to be from 1994, but believe me, they’re still doing it here. Click here...
