Did you know?

Practically all of the federal money spent on cleaning up and (partially) restoring basic services in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast was given to politically connected contractors – including many who are received (and are receiving) massive windfalls for government contracts in Iraq.

And that the work is done by low wage, uninsured, no benefits migrant workers from Mexico and the Caribbean?

Meanwhile, tens of thousands of the region’s skilled workers struggle to find work and adapt themselves to places that aren’t home.

Does this make any sense? Of course not.

Here’s a rational alternative:
