Review:

This is the Hundredth and fortieth in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

Support live music – even when it’s streamed!

Daahoud Salim, the son of American composer-saxophonist Abdu Salim, started playing piano when he was four, studied jazz and classical music in Spain, Portugal and Denmark, and graduated from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Salim has performed at concerts all over Europe and on radio and television in the Netherlands including playing as a soloist with orchestras.

On his LiveStream from August 11, 2020, Daahoud Salim begins with a brief bit of virtuosic and passionate playing, talks a little, and then performs the tender “Song For Alan,” sometimes recalling Billy Taylor and Ray Bryant while always sounding like himself.

He displays his impressive classical technique on a dramatic original, and concludes the LiveStream by performing two duets with trumpeter Bruno Calvo: an original jazz waltz and an adventurous yet picturesque number that one could imagine being on a soundtrack.
