Review:

This is the tenth in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

Support live music – even when it’s streamed!

Certainly one of the most underrated jazz pianists by the public but always in demand for sessions and recordings (his fellow musicians know how talented he is), Lafayette Harris Jr. is a swinging pianist with his own sound within the tradition.

Harris worked regularly with the late Max Roach, the Duke Ellington Legacy Orchestra, and Ernestine Anderson, and more recently has performed often with Houston Person; in addition he has released nine CDs as a leader including his latest, You Can’t Lose With The Blues.

On this delightful solo concert from Mar. 21, 2020, he begins with an introduction worthy of Art Tatum that leads into Fats Waller’s “Jitterbug Waltz.”

Harris also performs his original “Monique and Andrea” and concludes with a joyous version of “Take The ‘A’ Train” which wraps up an enjoyable set from a pianist everyone should know about.
