This is the one hundred and seventy-first in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

Classically trained in Italy and Spain, violinist Ludovica Burtone worked with orchestras in Europe for nine years before moving to the United States.

Always interested in improvising, she earned a jazz composition degree from Berklee, and since then has worked with such musicians as Dave Douglas, Kneebody, Susana Baca, Danilo Perez, Jon Batiste, and the Michael Leonhart Jazz Orchestra among others, also performing with her Ludovica Burtone Sparks ensemble which is comprised of a string quartet and a rhythm section.

On her LiveStream from May 20, 2020, Ludovica Burtone often sets a pattern on her violin that is repeated electronically while she solos on top.

Her intriguing set, which holds one’s interest throughout, includes the improv “Looking Inside,” Monteverde’s “Lamento Della Ninea,” “Choro Negro,” her original “Awakening,” and a somber version of Radiohead’s “Pyramid Song”
