Ashley Pezzotti, who was born in Queens, New York, took classical voice lessons starting when she was four and in 2018 graduated from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music.
In addition to her strong and beautiful voice, Ms. Pezzotti is notable for composing songs that sound as if they are from the Great American Songbook but are actually quite recent.
She has performed and recorded with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra and sung with Dave Holland, recording her debut album We’ve Only Just Begun in 2019.
On her LiveStream from Aug. 8, 2020, Ashley Pezzotti (who is on the brink of being discovered) along with the tasteful pianist Matt Wigler perform some of her originals plus “Body and Soul,” a scat-filled uptempo version of “Confirmation,” and an extended exploration of “All Of Me.”
This is the two hundred eight in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

Keyboardist Aja Grant leads Phony Ppl, a group that mixes together funk, soul, r&b and World Music.
Named by his father after the Steely Dan record Aja, he began playing the baritone horn in fourth grade and then was largely self-taught on piano, eventually switching his main focus to the Fender Rhodes.
Grant co-founded Phony Ppl while a freshman in high school and, while he has worked in a variety of settings since then, it is still one of his main outlets.
On his LiveStream from Aug. 8, 2020, Aja Grant performs groove music on his keyboards in a set of duets with drummer Matthew Byas.
