Review:

This is the hundredth and thirty-ninth in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

Support live music – even when it’s streamed!

Vibraphonist Christos Rafalides was born in Kozani, Greece where he studied piano and classical percussion, working with top orchestras.

After hearing pianist George Cables play, Rafalides switched to jazz and the vibraphone, moving to Boston to study at Berklee and in New York at the Manhattan School of Music where he learned from Joe Locke.

Since 2002, Christos Rafalides has recorded regularly and worked with top musicians including Ravi Coltrane, Antonio Sanchez, Donny McCaslin, the Charles Mingus Epitaph Band, and some of Greece’s most creative artists.

On this LiveStream from April 6, 2020, Christos Rafalides improvises a few numbers on his solo vibraphone while Irini Rafalides (whose speaking microphone is unfortunately a bit low) draws images that complement his playing.
