Singer-pianist Davina Sowers is well known in the blues world as the leader of Davina and the Vagabonds, an ensemble that she formed in 2006.

The popular group, which is based in Minnesota but has toured and appeared at the Monterey Jazz Festival and throughout the U.S. and Europe, usually consists of trumpet, trombone, bass, drums and the colorful leader.

Due to the pandemic, here is Davina without the Vagabonds, performing as a solo singer-pianist on her LiveStream of Aug. 9, 2020.

Davina sings and plays “When My Sugar Walks Down The Street,” and several originals in an often-rollicking style that crosses over between vintage jazz, New Orleans r&b and blues; it is a fresh extension on older styles, turning them into something new.
