Review:

This is the seventy fifth in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

Support live music – even when it’s streamed!

The Hogan Brothers, which are located in the San Francisco Bay area, consist of keyboardist Colin Hogan, electric bassist Steve Hogan and drummer Julian Hogan.

With their mother being a music teacher and their father the manager of a youth symphony, it is not surprising that the three siblings grew up around music.

The Hogan Brothers are an electric jazz trio that is open to the influences of funk, r&b and Latin rhythms; they display their own sound during their LiveStream from May 11, 2020 which begins at the eight-minute mark.

On this colorful set, the Hogan Brothers perform fresh versions of such standards as “A Night In Tunisia” (with the synth in the lead which may remind some of Chick Corea a little), “The Girl From Ipanema” and “Summertime” plus an original augmented blues.
