Review:

This is the one hundred ninety-second in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

Support live music – even when it’s streamed!

A young drummer with lots of potential, Ryan Sands is from Orange, CT, earned a degree from the New England Conservatory and a Masters from the Manhattan School Of Music.

The younger brother of pianist-vibraphonist Christian Sands, Ryan Sands has worked with his brother, Phil Markowitz, Dominique Eade, Christian Sands and George Garzone, in addition to his own trio.

On his LiveStream from December 4, 2020, Ryan and his trio start by performing a long and episodic work that covers several moods and grooves while being quite accessible.

They also perform Billy Strayhorn’s “Isfahan” and other originals; unfortunately the fluent guitarist and excellent bassist, who combine with Sands to form an attractive group sound, are not identified but they are well worth hearing.
