Review:

This is the second in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

An up-and-coming singer with a strong voice, a swinging style and her own approach to singing standards, Sharón Clark is on her way to greater fame in the jazz world.

Based in Washington D.C., the jazz vocalist has appeared often in New York, sung with the Baltimore Symphony and the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, and performed in Russia and Israel, recently recording a Shirley Horn tribute although she actually has her own sound and musical personality.

With fine support and concise solos from pianist Chris Grarsso, bassist Zack Pride, and drummer Lenny Robinson, Sharón Clark swings her way through such songs as “A Sleeping Bee,” “Never Will I Marry,” uptempo versions of “The Song Is You” and “Avalon” (which has some heated scatting), a tender “This Girl’s In Love With You,” an instrumental version of “Airegin,” “Come Back To Me,” and a few dramatic ballads.

Sharón Clark is a talent well worth discovering.

– Scott Yanow
